MEDIA RELEASE | ARCTIC BASECAMP AMPLIFIES ITS GLOBAL VOICE WITH TONIC DIGITAL

Arctic Basecamp, a non-profit science communication organization, founded by Professor Gail Whiteman, an expert on global risk and Professor of Sustainability at the University of Exeter’s Business School (UK), was established with the aim of speaking “science to power” to encourage politicians and world leaders to engage in bold climate action.

The polar regions are the canary in the coal mine of climate change. For over a decade, scientists at Arctic Basecamp have been communicating and sharing crucial, actionable

information about the poles and their critical relationship to climate change worldwide.

As part of its mission of speaking “science to power, ” Arctic Basecamp has a presence at many world-reaching events, including a flagship event since 2017 alongside the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting at Davos, at which Arctic Basecamp scientists and collaborators set up a real Arctic science tent, camp there and run impactful events on the repercussions of climate change. They launched the Global Climate Risks Platform in 2022, a dashboard that focusses on climate risks driven by rapid polar warming and makes polar science accessible to business leaders, policymakers and community members.

As part of its mission to encourage business leaders, policymakers, and community members to become involved in taking responsible action to limit climate change, Arctic Basecamp and Tonic Digital have entered into a pro-bono sponsorship agreement. Tonic Digital will provide Arctic Basecamp with free Google Ad services to assist them in communicating information about the Global Climate Risk Platform and what people can use to address the critical issue of climate change.

Mr Collins, Managing Director, said this “pro-bono sponsorship agreement continues Tonic Digital's priority of working with non-profit and socially responsible organisations using paid

media to enhance outcomes that build and create strong, sustainable and healthy communities.”

In entering into this sponsorship agreement, Professor Whiteman stated that "Tonic’s expertise in working with non-profit organisations and their work throughout the Asia-Pacific region made them an ideal partner in assisting Arctic Basecamp to grow the global reach of the Global Climate Risk Platform.”

The Asian continent has 11 of the 20 countries identified as most at risk from climate change (include source) and with temperatures rising throughout the region, there will be more heat stress events and resulting loss in economic productivity. One of the other consequences of rising temperatures is that the warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture, leading to an

increased intensity of storms.

Professor Whiteman said, “Given the impact of climate change in the region, having an organisation based in Singapore, who can use digital technology to assist us in spreading the message in the region is vital”.
